How enzalutamide works
Prostate cancer cells use androgens such as testosterone to grow. Enzalutamide interrupts that signal at three points along the androgen receptor pathway.
- Blocks binding. It competes with androgens for the androgen receptor, so the hormone cannot attach.
- Stops transport. It prevents the receptor from moving into the nucleus of the cancer cell.
- Prevents gene activation. It stops the receptor from interacting with DNA, which slows cell growth and leads to cancer cell death.
Who Enzalunix is for
Enzalunix is indicated for men with prostate cancer in these three stages. Patients should also receive a GnRH analogue or have had a bilateral orchiectomy.
